A client within the Public Sector based in Greater Manchester is currently recruiting for a Development Manager to join their planning team as soon as possible.

The client is offering a full time, temporary position on an ongoing basis with the ideal candidate having experience of working within the public sector.

The Role

Key purpose of the role is to lead the Development Management Service in providing a professional, efficient and cost effective service that meets all legal and policy requirements.

Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

• assist the Head of Planning in the development and maintenance of effective links with other Council services, partner organisations and external stakeholders to secure the regeneration of the Borough, and in communicating the value added by the Planning Service.


• apply policy broadly, innovatively and creatively and take the lead role in negotiations on major and complex planning applications and legal agreements with applicants and developers, local communities, other Council services, partner organisations and external agencies.


• be responsible for the effective leadership and management of staff within the Planning Service, including the development of effective work, performance, development and support programmes for all staff, and the training of staff on new legislation, guidance and procedures across the service.

The Candidate

To be considered for this role you will require a recognised qualification in Town Planning or equivalent.

It will be essential to have an extensive level of knowledge of the below:

• Detailed experience of managing development management, enforcement, heritage and technical support teams to deliver high levels of performance and project delivery


• experience of managing budgets, or interpreting financial information?


• knowledge of legislation, policies, best practice and emerging guidance relating to all aspects of a development management service, including the effective use of enforcement and heritage controls

The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering between £400 - £450 per day Umbrella Ltd.
