Service Care Solutions is currently seeking a Grave Digger to join our client in Stockport.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in grave digging, encompassing machine excavation, hand excavation, and backfilling excavation.

Additionally, familiarity with grounds maintenance is advantageous as the role involves maintaining cemetery grounds alongside grave digging duties.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct machine excavation using a Bobcat 1.7 series mechanical excavator for the precise digging of graves.


• Utilize hand excavation techniques when necessary to ensure accuracy in grave dimensions and alignments.


• Perform backfilling excavation with attention to detail to ensure stability and safety.


• Maintain the appearance and integrity of cemetery grounds through landscaping, mowing, and general upkeep.


• Adhere to strict safety protocols and guidelines, including the installation of excavation shoring and compliance with Health and Safety regulations.


• Operate Thwaites dumper (1 tonne) for the transportation of materials as required.


• Work efficiently within specified timeframes, sometimes under pressure, while adhering to instructions provided.


• Demonstrate physical capability to carry out lifting, handling, and hand excavation tasks effectively.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Previous experience in grave digging is highly desirable.


• Proficiency in machine excavation, hand excavation, and backfilling excavation techniques.


• Grounds maintenance experience is advantageous.


• Familiarity with the operation of a Bobcat 1.7 series mechanical excavator and Thwaites dumper (1 tonne).


• Ability to work within designated timeframes, sometimes under pressure, and follow instructions accurately.


• Understanding of installation procedures for excavation shoring and awareness of all Health and Safety implications.


• Possession of a valid driving license is desirable.
