Placement Officer

Sandwell Children's Trust is seeking two dedicated Placements Officers to join their busy Commissioning and Placements team.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of vulnerable children by ensuring they are placed in safe, supportive environments that meet their needs.


Location: Oldbury, West Midlands
Salary: £16.50 per hour
Hours: 37 hours per week, ongoing contract
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (initially full-time in the office, then minimum 3 days per week in the office)


Key Responsibilities:

  • Immediate Response to Risk: Quickly address any urgent situations involving risks to vulnerable children.

  • Sourcing Placements: Assist in finding appropriate care placements for children, working closely with both internal teams and external providers.

  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with various teams to identify and match available carers with children who need placements.

  • Information Management: Gather, share, and manage information to support effective placement decisions and develop tools to track and manage placement resources.

  • Liaison: Engage with other Trust placements teams, particularly when sourcing placements outside of Sandwell, to ensure that any potential risks or vulnerabilities are identified.

  • Quality Assurance: Take accountability for the quality of your work and be proactive in maintaining and enhancing your skills.

  • Respectful Teamwork: Work openly and cooperatively with colleagues, treating all team members with respect.

  • Presenting Information: Be prepared to present information in various forums as required.


What We're Looking For:

  • Qualifications: NVQ Level 3 in a relevant field, or similar qualifications with a willingness to obtain NVQ Level 3 within a reasonable timeframe.

  • Experience: Previous experience in children's placements within a social care setting is essential.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal communication skills, both face-to-face and over the phone.

  • IT Proficiency: Strong IT skills, with the ability to use various tools and systems.

  • Team Player: Ability to work well within a team, self-motivate, and show initiative.

  • Resilience: Able to remain focused and composed, even when facing oppositional challenges from families.

  • Multi-tasking: Capable of managing multiple tasks under pressure and working in a fast-paced environment.

  • Flexibility: Adaptable and able to work flexibly to meet the demands of the role, particularly during busy periods.
