Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Duty IDVA to join our dynamic Violence Against Women and Girls team in Hammersmith.

This role involves providing crisis intervention, advocacy, and support to women experiencing domestic abuse.

You will work closely with survivors, guiding them through the legal process, coordinating multi-agency support, and ensuring their safety and well-being.


Key Responsibilities

  • Case Management: Conduct comprehensive assessments of women experiencing domestic abuse, including risk and needs assessments.

    Develop and implement tailored safety plans, providing ongoing support and monitoring.

  • Crisis Intervention: Provide immediate crisis support to women fleeing domestic abuse, offering emotional support, practical advice, and access to emergency accommodation.

  • Legal Advocacy: Accompany survivors to court and other legal proceedings as needed.

    Provide information and support throughout the criminal justice process, including assisting with applications for special measures and impact statements.

  • Multi-agency Working: Collaborate with police, social services, housing providers, and other relevant agencies to ensure comprehensive support for survivors.

    Attend multi-agency risk assessment conferences (MARACs) as required.

  • Advocacy and Empowerment: Empower survivors to make informed decisions about their safety and future.

    Advocate for their rights and needs, challenging discriminatory practices and promoting positive change.

  • Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records.

    Contribute to data collection and reporting to inform service development and evaluation.


Essential Skills and Experience

  • Specialist Knowledge: In-depth understanding of domestic abuse, its impact on women and children, and relevant legislation.

  • Casework Experience: Proven experience supporting women survivors of domestic abuse, including conducting risk assessments, safety planning, and crisis intervention.

  • Legal Knowledge: Strong understanding of the criminal justice system, family law, and civil remedies.

  • Advocacy Skills: Excellent communication, listening, and negotiation skills.

    Ability to build rapport and trust with survivors.

  • Multi-agency Working: Experience of working effectively with a range of professionals and agencies.

  • Resilience: Ability to manage complex and emotionally demanding caseloads while maintaining professional boundaries.

  • IT Skills: Proficiency in using IT systems for case management, data input, and report writing.
