A large housing association are recruiting for a Specialist Homelessness Prevention and Advice Officer in Ealing to help their residents sustain their tenancies.

The Role
The key focus of the Specialist Homelessness Prevention Coordinator role is to support single adults who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless within 56 days.

The role involves managing a caseload to help these individuals secure and sustain accommodation, thereby preventing homelessness.

This is part of a payment-by-results initiative aiming for specific outcomes through mediation and sourcing new housing solutions.

  • Coordinate a frontline service, working within a busy team to support individuals who are homeless or threatened with homelessness, utilizing specialist knowledge of housing and homelessness legislation to find appropriate housing solutions.

  • Manage a caseload effectively, driving client engagement to meet service standards and targets, while undertaking comprehensive assessments and ongoing reviews of clients' needs, creating Personal Housing Plans.

  • Actively work with clients to prevent homelessness by assisting them in retaining their current accommodation or securing alternative housing options.

  • Liaise and negotiate with local letting agents, private landlords, family/friends, and various agencies to find the best housing solutions for clients, while maintaining effective working partnerships with statutory, voluntary, and commercial organizations.

  • Provide tenancy sustainment support, ensuring clients can maintain their tenancies and access longer-term support where needed, including attending property viewings and managing clients' expectations regarding housing options.

The Candidate
To be considered for this Specialist Homelessness Prevention Coordinator role, you will require the following skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with housing and homelessness legislation, specifically regarding private rented housing, the Homelessness Reduction Act, and tenants' rights.

  • Understanding of welfare benefits legislation and the impacts of welfare reform on homelessness.

  • Proactive and solution-focused, with a track record of achieving high-quality client work and results in a target-led environment.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to record accurate data, case notes, and outcomes, along with impeccable organizational skills to manage a busy caseload effectively.

  • Genuine empathy and the ability to build strong relationships with clients, team members, and the public, combined with a socially conscious commitment to making a difference.

The Contract
This is a temporary Specialist Homelessness Prevention Coordinator role on an initial 3 month contract which has a strong chance of being extended or made permanent.

The role is full time, working 9-5 Monday to Friday.
