Phlebotomist/HCA Location: Stockport Position Type: Locum Rate: £14.50Dates Available: 5 days per week from now until the end of DecemberJob Summary: Medical Group is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Phlebotomist/Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our dedicated Nursing team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality care to our patients and supporting the clinical team in delivering excellent healthcare services.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
As a key member of our team, you will be expected to:
Perform phlebotomy on patients following standard operating procedures for obtaining blood.
Implement effective measures to reduce patient anxiety related to blood-taking procedures, ensuring patients feel safe and well-informed throughout.
Cross-check all relevant patient information, tests required, and any special requirements for those tests.
Ensure correct identification of patients and accurate labelling of their samples; instruct patients on corrective methods for seeking assistance if discrepancies occur.
Demonstrate competence with the computer system and handle patient data, ensuring information is accurate and secure.
Summon assistance in the event of an adverse reaction or fainting episode during phlebotomy sessions.
Complete relevant documentation of the intervention on EMIS.
Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, and pulse rate, recording findings accurately.
Administer IM injections and flu vaccinations, if appropriately trained.
Ensure specimens are recorded and prepared for onward transportation.
Monitor stock control and ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session.
Monitor and clean fridges routinely in accordance with extant guidance.
Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate.
Undertake other administrative and clinical duties as required from time to time.
Qualifications: Essential:
Vaccine administering qualification
Phlebotomy qualification
GCSEs grade A to C in English and Maths
Desirable:
NVQ Level 3 qualification
Experience: Essential:
Experience of working in a GP practice
Experience as a Health Care Assistant
Experience of working within the NHS or Primary Care
Desirable:
Experience with EMIS
