Key Responsibilities



  • Planning Application Management: Manage various planning applications, appeals, and pre-application processes within the council's planning IT systems.

  • Data Entry and Creation: Create new planning applications within the Council's central Planning application system, ensuring all relevant information is included.

  • Communication Management: Oversee communication flow through the planning system, ensuring timely updates and notifications.

  • Real-Time Status Updates: Update planning system statuses to reflect the progress of applications in real-time.

  • GIS System Utilisation: Effectively utilise GIS systems as part of the planning process.

  • GDPR Compliance: Ensure compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including redacting sensitive information in planning documents.

  • Document Upload and Publication: Upload and publish documents, including drawings and plans, through the planning portal.

  • Ownership of Application Processing: Take full responsibility for processing planning applications, from logging to status updates within the Council's central Planning application system.

  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively within a team, supporting service improvement projects and working closely with managers and officers.


    • Key Requirements



  • Experience in Council Departments: Proven experience working within a council department; experience in the Planning department is advantageous.

  • Time Management Skills: Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and work under pressure.

  • Understanding of Planning Processes: Familiarity with the planning process from start to completion.

  • Administrative Capabilities: Strong administrative skills, including managing conflicting workloads and priorities.

  • IT Proficiency: Experience using IT systems, including database management and planning tools, with proficiency in G Suite, Microsoft Shared Drive, and video conferencing tools like Google Meet.

  • Quick Learner: Ability to quickly learn new processes and systems, adapting to the specific needs of the planning department.

  • GDPR Knowledge: Understanding of GDPR regulations, particularly in relation to planning documents, with experience in redacting sensitive information.

  • Document Management: Competence in uploading, managing, and publishing documents through planning portals.

  • Organisational Skills: Excellent organisational abilities, ensuring efficient processing and management of planning applications.

  • Communication Skills: Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with team members, stakeholders, and the public.

  • Educational Qualifications: Educated to GCSE/O level standard or above in English (grade C and above), or the ability to demonstrate sound literacy and numeracy skills.

  • Team Player: Ability to work as part of a friendly and dynamic team, contributing to positive planning.
