Electoral Services Officer

Job Title: Electoral Services Officer
Location of the job: Crawley, RH10
Contract type: temp for around 2 months
Weekly hours: 37 hours per week
Working hours: Monday-Friday
Start date: ASAP

Job Purpose

To provide efficient and effective electoral administration, ensuring that all processes are well managed, open and transparent, comply with electoral legislation and meet the performance standards set by the Electoral Commission for electoral registration and elections.

Responsibilities



  • To maintain the Register of Electors including the processing of applications, deletions, the verification of applicants' identity in order to ensure the accuracy of the electoral register and all special category elector's applications.

  • To distribute the revised Register of Electors and monthly alterations to Councillors, Members of Parliament, political parties and credit reference agencies complying with data protection and electoral legislation

  • To cost the elements of the Register of Electors available for sale and to invoice buyers and receive payments.

  • To support with planning and implementing the annual canvass

  • To assist with the recruitment, comprehensive training, allocation and deployment of registration canvassers, presiding officers, clerks, inspectors, postal vote opening teams and count staff.

  • To support the Lead Electoral Services Officer to maximise voter registration.

    To develop an engagement strategy to increase public awareness and promote democratic involvement.

  • To assist with all aspects of the management of absent voting applications and records and provide support for the opening of postal votes.

  • To arrange the hire of polling station premises and to assist with polling stations risk assessments

  • To provide support on administering the electoral nomination process, carrying out informal checks of nomination papers and associated documents, and providing clarification and feedback to candidates and agents as necessary.



Person Specification



  • Excellent customer services skills, ability to demonstrate an understanding of the importance of customer focus and sensitivity and discretion of working in a political environment councillors and colleagues with tact

  • Fully comprehensive IT Skills especially MS 365 & MS Excels, databases

  • Good numeracy skills

  • Ability to understand and apply legislation and procedures
