One of the largest Housing Associations in Kent is recruiting for a Tenancy Sustainment Officer to tenancy related support to vulnerable residents across West Kent in order to ensure they live independently and remain in their home

The Role
As a Tenancy Sustainment Officer you will have a key role in providing tenancy related support to vulnerable residents in order to ensure they live independently and remain in their home.

Your persistent and resilient approach will encourage residents, often with complex issues, to develop the skills and motivation to engage with services and improve their lives
This will include the following tasks and responsibilities:



  • Provide holistic, person-centered support to improve residents' lives, focusing on their individual goals and independent living skills.

  • Manage a caseload of residents by conducting interviews, making regular visits, and maintaining meaningful contact to understand and address their support needs.

  • Take immediate responsibility for residents' support needs, including crisis intervention when necessary.

  • Assist residents in applying for benefits and funding, and appeal unsuccessful decisions; negotiate with relevant agencies for additional support.

  • Specialize in a specific area (e.g., mental health, hoarding, domestic abuse) and collaborate with various teams within West Kent to ensure residents receive comprehensive support.

    Attend forums and training to enhance knowledge and share insights within the organization.

    Build strong partnerships with relevant service providers in the specialization area.



The Candidate
To be considered for this Tenancy Sustainment Officer role, you will require previous tenancy sustainment experience, and be compassionate towards service users, as well as the following skills and experience:



  • Proven experience of providing support across a range of areas to vulnerable individuals

  • Proven knowledge of best practice, guidance and legislation relating to tenancy sustainment issues such as poor mental health, financial support, tenancy law, substance misuse, and the statutory and voluntary sector support available.

    Also proven expertise/ experience in at least one area of these.

  • Excellent knowledge and practical experience of the welfare benefits system, appeals, and ensuring that residents are supported to access statutory and non-statutory funding.

  • Experience of providing outcome-focussed, person-centred support, ideally using strengths-based practice.


As this role covers a large area, you will need to be a driver with access to a vehicle for work.
Due to the nature of clients you will be supporting in this role, you will require an enhanced DBS.

The Package
This is a full time Tenancy Sustainment Officer role, on an initial 12 week contract, working 37 hours per week - 8.45-17:15.
The purpose of the vacancy is to cover a long term absence, but this could potentially be extended.
