Ground Maintenance Officer

£15.26 Per hour Umbrella Pay + Mileage Allowance Payable

35 Hours Per Week

Service Care Solutions have an exciting opportunity for a an experience Ground Maintenance Officer to join a local authority covering areas within Kent on a temporary contract.

The role is to work as part of the Grounds team who are responsible for managing the maintenance of Park and Opens Spaces, cemeteries, allotments and highways verges.

The role involves assisting with contract management of the grounds maintenance contractor and other contractors working in these spaces.

This involves inspections, attending meetings, providing daily work instructions and discussing performance.

Monitoring the use of these spaces by organisations, and groups who provide activities within these spaces and be aware of unpermitted use.



You will be familiar with health and safety, risk assessments, horticultural or grounds practices.

You will have good IT skills and be a clear and sensitive communicator who can respond and resolve customer enquires and complaints.

• We are seeking candidates who have a background in Grounds Maintenance and Horticultural work and able to use leadership and management to ensure the works carried out comply to the council ways of working.


• This role requires a Full UK Driving License, Experience of budgeting, communication skills, supervising, and up to date with workplace laws and policies.


• Carry out monitoring of contractor's scheduled work to ensure it is completed to specified standards and at required timings and enforcing the conditions of contract where they are below standard to ensure the correct provision of the services for residents.

Key duties will include:

• Order reactive and emergency work and ensure they are completed to specified standards.


• To liaise with the Cemeteries Officer regularly to ensure that all cemetery processes and necessary paperwork are compliant with Cemetery Regulations and are contemporary.


• Carry out regular safety inspections of Parks and Open Spaces, playgrounds, sports facilities and parks infrastructure and buildings, recording inspection details for risk management and contract compliance purposes.


• Be responsible for carrying out on site surveying and measurement to maintain accurate site inventories on the Confirm contract management software and GIS systems.


• Deal directly with requests, complaints and enquiries received by members of the public, MP's and Councillors in connection with the services; attending site meetings with residents, providing technical advice, guidance, estimates and written responses to meet the aims and objectives of the Head of Parks and Open Spaces.


• Be responsible for identifying where legislation or Bye laws are being contravened, assisting with the enforcement of these, serving notices and taking the necessary follow-up action to assist with the provision of public safety.


• Provide estimates and technical advice to colleagues in other departments and external organisations, undertaking works on their behalf in connection with the services under the control of the Head of Leisure Parks and Open Spaces.


• Participate in rostered out-of-hours working to ensure there is a staff deployment to deal with emergency situations and inspections of scheduled works being performed at weekends and Bank Holidays.
