We have an excellent opportunity for a Litigation and Governance Lawyer to join a Council based within West Sussex.

Especially interested in Lawyers who can regularly attend the HDC offices, as Court and Committee attendance around local area and train and support Junior staff.

ROLE: Principle Litigation & Governance Lawyer
LOCATION: Horsham
CONTRACT: 3 months on going
RATE: £50ph

The Role-

• Draft, issue, and defend civil litigation claims and deal with commercial disputes and deal with housing matters, including homelessness advice, appeals and housing possessions


• You will undertake criminal prosecutions and advise and assist with governance and standards


• To give legal advice to the Council, its members, officers and services in respect of any and all of the Council's functions relating to the above matters and to deal with relevant enquiries from members of the public.


• You will provide prompt, clear and accurate written and verbal advice in all areas and be the Legal advisor at Committees and Sub-Committee Meetings.


• You will also supervise and help train, develop, and mentor the more junior staff.

The Person-

• Lawyer or Solicitor with a current Practising Certificate, Barrister, FCILEX


• Experienced in advocacy, and you will represent the Council in Courts, Tribunals, Inquiries and Committees and deal effectively with a range of people from different backgrounds using clear, concise, modern, and authoritative communication skills.


• Able to demonstrate practising experience in most of the following areas: civil litigation, housing, prosecutions, licensing, standards and governance.


• Able to show and demonstrate excellent advocacy skills.
