Clinical Lead Hands

As the Clinical Lead your key responsibilities include:



  • Work as an autonomous practitioner, within scope of practice and deliver a quality clinical service; meeting the clinical and strategic needs of the hospital

  • Perform an advanced musculo-skeletal assessment of orthopaedic and plastic surgery hand patients including those with highly complex presentations and from this formulate a diagnosis and treatment plan, which is carried out as an autonomous practitioner

  • Interpret and analyse clinical and non-clinical facts to form accurate diagnoses in a wide range of highly complex musculo-skeletal, plastic and orthopaedic surgery conditions

  • To be highly competent in assessing a wide range of hand and plastic surgery conditions based on advanced theoretical knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology, often in situations where conflicting evidence is present

  • Support the development of the Hand Therapy service, striving to ensure best practice, maximum efficiency and productivity and cost effectiveness

  • Oversee, initiate and participate in evidence based projects and lead in-service training sessions as required

  • To supervise, initiate and participate in audit and service reviews and evaluations as appropriate

  • Supervise, teach and appraise members of the Hand Therapy team as required



The following skills and experience would be preferred and beneficial for the role:



  • Evidence of post graduate professional development in hand therapy specialism i.e.

    BAHT or similar

  • Evidence of additional specialist knowledge acquired through relevant post-graduate training

  • Experience of working with complex plastic and orthopaedic hand surgery

  • Highly skilled in hand therapy splinting and post-operative wound care

  • Experience of a wide range of approaches for the management of complex patients

  • Awareness of cognitive behavioural approach to rehabilitation



The successful Clinical Lead will receive an excellent salary up to £45,361.68 per annum.

This exciting position is a Part Time role working 22.5 hours a week.
