Database Administrator

Service Care Solutions are looking for a Database Administrator to work within the Lincolnshire Constabulary on a 6-month contract.

Location: Lincolnshire

Job role/responsibilities:
The Database Administrator will be a highly technically skilled individual with the responsibility for the design, implementation, configuration and on-going management and maintenance of all Database related technology within the department.

The database administrator will be integral to the Solutions Team working closely with all aspects of the Digital and Data Directorate such as servers, networks, developers, and analysts.



  • Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.

  • Apply data modelling techniques to ensure development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations.

  • Analyse, diagnose and resolve technical and database issues.

    Ensure timely resolution of incidents, problems and change as defined in the agreed Service Levels.

  • Plan for backup and recovery of database information ensuring the backups are verified and successful.

    Planning and managing exercises to prove recovery procedures.

  • Implement recovery procedure when necessary.

  • Deploy database change scripts provided by in-house developers and third-party vendors

  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours, when required.

  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues and document changes.

  • Install, configure, and maintain all existing and future database environments.

  • Configure SQL Server monitoring utilities to minimize false alarms.

  • Ensure documentation is current and up to date.

  • In concert with the Server team, perform SQL Server CU updates.

  • Ensure that systems remain supportable, expandable, fit for purpose, and capable of delivering on-going business value and benefit.

  • Manipulate, maintain, and scrutinise databases to provide information regarding enhancements, upgrades, and software.

  • Take innovative approaches to problem solving and deliver inventive and creative solutions.

  • Perform all daily checks in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Maintain relevant sections of Standard Operation Procedures.

  • Maintain a detailed knowledge of current practice in own area of expertise.


Knowledge/experience required:



  • Experience with performance tuning and optimisation, using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.

  • Experience installing and configuring new SQL Servers.

  • Experience with backups, restores and recovery models.

  • Experience using free querying tools to diagnose server reliability and performance issues.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong technical skills with a customer service ethic.

  • Strong influencing skills and the ability to develop strong working relationships at all levels.

  • Technical knowledge of Microsoft SQL server.
