Job Title: : Customer Service Agent (floor walker) - Housing Needs

A new opportunity has become available for a customer service agent be the first point of contact within a busy housing needs team, and provide excellent customer care to both our external and internal customers, helping to ensure our services run smoothly and solving problems as they arise.

Key responsibilities -



  • To provide a customer service function to people presenting to the Customer Centre with a housing need.

    Interacting with members of the public, providing initial advice and assistance to ensure their queries are dealt with as swiftly and efficiently as possible.

  • To ensure a prompt, courteous and helpful response when dealing with queries from members of the public or their representatives, including elected Members, outside agencies and partner organisations.

  • To refer housing applicants to relevant internal teams and to other agencies as necessary for advice on housing matters, welfare rights, social services, immigration and other issues using referral procedures.

  • To participate in appropriate training needs to gain a satisfactory level of knowledge appropriate for advising clients.


Essential Criteria:



  • Ability to provide advice and practical assistance to the public in a social housing environment

  • Working knowledge of the relevant legislation relating to homelessness and housing needs with particular reference to the Housing Act 1996 Part VII and the Homeless Reduction Act 2017

  • Call Centre experience

  • Comfortable in the use of computers and IT

  • Experience of working in a multi-cultural community

  • Good level of numeracy and literacy with the ability to quickly work with financial data and complex information simply and clearly

  • Active listener, adapting communication methods depending on the audience and taking a strength based approach to suit the needs of our service users

  • Ability to manage and prioritise workload, working under pressure and quickly

  • Drive for customer excellence, showing empathy, patience and understanding of customer's needs and requirements and recognising your impact on service users lives.

  • Collect, record, maintain and share data intelligently using appropriate systems/methods in accordance with GDPR regulations.
