Senior Options Advisor

Job Title: Senior Options Advisor
Work Pattern: 35 hours
Type: 6 months temp on going
Location: Merton, SM4 5DX

Purpose of the Role
I am representing a client based in Merton, who are looking for someone to provide a proactive, high quality customer focused range of services to customers who approach the Housing Needs and Enabling Service for assistance.

You will be working closely with the Housing Advice and Options Manager to provide a range of services, which respond to both current and future housing needs within the borough and where the prevention of homelessness is of paramount importance.

Main Responsibilities



  • Effectively manage resources in the options and advice team to respond to all potential and existing demands for accommodation or advice

  • Provide a service which meets the needs of all tenures and all customers requiring a housing needs service

  • Provide an efficient and effective service to homeless households approaching the council and carry out the council's statutory functions in line with all the relevant legislation

  • Implement a comprehensive strategy to prevent or delay homelessness

  • Establish positive working relationships with other departments, external agencies and voluntary groups involved in the provision of services to customers in housing need

  • To be responsible for the management of applications made for assistance with housing under the terms of the Housing Act 1996 or any other relevant legislation and to approve the applications as appropriate.

    To ensure that potential fraudulent cases are investigated, and appropriate action taken.

  • Ensure the council meets its statutory obligations in relation to the provision of advice and information about the prevention homelessness

  • Decide on the placement of homeless customers into interim and temporary accommodation

  • Ensure a proactive and effective assessment and advice service that would cover such issues as:

    • Homeless prevention

    • Tenancy relations work

    • Debt/Welfare problems

    • Illegal evictions/harassment

    • Relationship breakdown

    • Domestic violence

    • Home ownership options

    • Homelessness





Requirements



  • Two years' experience in housing needs or related disciplines

  • To have an in-depth knowledge of housing legislation, regulations, case law and codes of practice as applied to local authority housing and private sector housing

  • To have a knowledge of the needs of our customers, for example the homeless, older people, mental health and learning disabilities, families with children, young people and victims of domestic violence and harassment.

  • Ability to monitor and review performance to initiate action and to implement changes in policy, procedures, and practices

  • Ability to communicate effectively both when amending meetings externally and internally with the Housing Needs and Enabling Service and the council generally
