Purpose of the Role
I am representing a client based in Loughborough, who are looking for someone to investigate the needs of homeless and other housing applicants.

You will be expected to offer advice and assistance on housing options and ensure Council policies and procedures are followed in the allocations and assessment process.

Additionally, you will be required to deliver an effective and appropriate service to all service users, fairly and without discrimination.

Main Responsibilities

  • Interview homeless applicants; assess homeless applications in accordance with legislation and case law; undertake necessary investigations into homeless applications and make recommendations for final decisions.

  • Assess and process Housing Register/Transfer Applications in accordance with legislation and council policy.

  • Provide advice and assistance on housing options and work with applicants to prevent them from becoming homeless.

  • Deal with enquiries from housing applicants; conduct interviews in the office, at the person's home or on site.

  • As a term of your employment, you can be required to undertake such other duties commensurate with your grade, and/or hours of work, as may reasonably be required of you at your initial place of work or at any other of the Authority's establishments.

  • Responsible for protecting and managing information securely, and reporting breaches or suspected information security breaches, in line with Council policies.


  • Enhanced DBS check.

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Housing or related subject, or demonstrable, relevant experience.

  • Experience of homelessness, homelessness prevention, housing advice or related work.

  • Experience of tenancy support or related work.

  • Experience of working in a results-orientated environment.

  • Knowledge of allocations and lettings processes.

  • Knowledge of benefit maximisation and rents.

  • Knowledge of the Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Act 2002, Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, and associated guidance.

  • Flexible approach to work and ability to meet challenges and adapt to change.

  • Willingness to attend regular meetings, including on occasions out of normal office hours.

  • Mediation Skills.
