Job Title: Housing Options Officer
Work Pattern: 37 hours
Type: Temp, 3 months
Location: Devon, Southwest England (Hybrid working available)

Purpose of the Role
I am representing a client based in Southwest England, who are looking for someone to provide a comprehensive front-line, customer focused Housing Options service to customers seeking advice and assistance with housing.

You will be expected to assess housing need and provide specialist advice and support to resolve housing issues and prevent or relieve homelessness using creative and innovative solutions wherever possible and having due regard to relevant legislation and case law, government guidance and Council policy and practice.



Job Role



  • Assess approaches for housing assistance under the statutory framework to determine whether a duty is owed under current legislation

  • Provide tailored advice and identify housing solutions to assist customers to retain their current accommodation and make informed decisions about other housing options available to them

  • Work with customers owed a prevention or relief duty

  • Obtain documentation and carry out relevant enquiries to make decisions concerning the Council's duties (including decisions under s.184 of the Housing Act 1996)

  • To develop and maintain up to date knowledge of housing and homelessness legislation and case law and welfare benefits

  • Administer applications to Devon Home Choice in accordance with Devon Home Choice policy and procedure




Requirements



  • Chartered Institute of Housing Level 3 Diploma in Housing Practice or equivalent

  • DBS check

  • Good knowledge of housing and homelessness legislation, including the Housing Act 1996 (as amended by the Homelessness Act 2002, Localism Act 2011, and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017)

  • Good knowledge of Landlord & Tenant Law

  • Basic Welfare Benefits knowledge

  • Experience of carrying out front line Housing Options work; including interviewing those in housing need, carrying out prevention work to find the best housing solutions, and investigating and making decisions on homeless applications in accordance with the relevant legislation
