Job Title: Welfare Benefit Assistant
Work Location: - Billericay, Essex, CM12
Contract Type: Permanent
Weekly Hours: 37 Hours per week
Salary: £24,205 - £26,265

Key responsibilities

  • To work with the Welfare Benefit Team to investigate and implement initiatives to minimise the impacts of welfare reform and the roll out of Universal Credit.

  • To work with the London and Essex Welfare Reform Officers to support residents.

  • To provide administrative support to the Welfare Benefits and Income team and be the first point of contact for residents with standard benefits queries.

  • To work with the London and Essex Welfare Reform Officers to develop options for residents to mitigate the impact of welfare reforms, ensuring they are able to make appropriate decisions based on their individual circumstances.

  • Work closely with the Income, Welfare and Allocation Teams to assess new tenants' ability to afford the housing costs to ensure that all new tenancies are financially sustainable.

    Work with incoming tenants to ensure welfare benefit and other potential income sources are maximised.

  • Manage the London and Essex Universal Credit database.

    To ensure that verifications are competed within a specified timescale and contact is made by a member of the Welfare Benefit Team to discuss the new claim and advanced payment.

  • To coordinate the first and follow-up telephone calls and home visits to Universal Credit residents.

  • Develop knowledge and keep up to date with changes in legislations and regulations that affect the payment of welfare benefits.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of working in an administrative role within a housing environment, ideally within Welfare Benefits.

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of benefits and welfare reform changes.

  • Able to use IT to manage casework.

  • Understanding of customer care and quality issues.

  • Experience in helping customers with benefit queries.
