Student Support Manager

Contract: 6 months likely to be extended


Wage: £ 300 umbrella inside ir/35



Job Summary:
This role will form part of a new team in Professionalism, the Policing Education Qualifications Framework (PEQF) Centre for Initial Recruit Learning (CIRL), which will facilitate the relationship with academic partners, manage the operational delivery of student police officer learning, manage the contracts and finances, and ensure that student police officer learning evolves with the changing needs of the organisation.


The PEQF Student Support Manager will provide a dedicated on-the-ground oversight of the additional support needs of student police officers during their time at the HEIs (Higher Education Institutions) and on BCUs, and are accountable for coordinating central L&D (Learning & Development) requirements.

They will work with our delivery partners to ensure that student with identified support needs are enabled to succeed.

They play a vital role in creating and managing a holistic learning environment for student police officers at third party educational sites.



Key Result Areas:



  • Working with our delivery partners, ensure student support mechanisms are timely and accessible to ensure student officers are able to progress with their learning through problem solving and addressing any emergent issues.

  • Monitoring the effectiveness of learning and support plans through data management, making decisions about providing Met support through follow-ups, referrals and case reviews, where appropriate.

  • Monitoring the progress and outcomes of students who have been referred to further Met support services (beyond support provision provided by external delivery partners) through case management.

  • Be the point of contact for Line Managers whilst students are in HEI and on BCU to address queries and/or signpost student police officers to the relevant support services to ensure the student police officer receives a good quality of service/support.


Knowledge:



  • Knowledge of adult learning and development theory and practice.

  • Awareness of Higher Education academic regulations and student support systems.

  • Awareness of data security principles (GDPR 2018).

  • Desirable - Knowledge of police regulations and disciplinary procedures.


Skills:



  • Ability to influence and build relationships to work with internal and external partners.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate information effectively both verbally and in writing to colleagues within the Met and external stakeholders.

  • Robust planning and organisational skills to prioritise and manage an often changing workload.

  • Ability to interrogate learner management systems and analyse data; coordinating and cross referencing data through analysis across a number of platforms.
