Role: Technical Author
Contracting Authority: MOD - Defence Academy
Contract Length: 6 Months - Possible extension
Location: Shrivenham - Hybrid, Team Day on site is a Tuesday.

1-2 days max on site a week.
IR35: Inside
Pay Rate to Candidate: £265.11

The Defence Academy requires two further digital content authors to increase its current capability in supporting the Defence Academy's digitisation programme.
The successful candidates will have a proven track record at practitioner level in writing pedagogically sound educational content using a variety of writing techniques to convey learning such as: storytelling, case studies, metaphors or analogies.

They must have a good working knowledge of pedagogy and how its principles underpin good content writing.

These roles are within the eLearning Development Team (eDT) and currently working to the SO1 eDT Team Leader (though line management may change) and will include:
, analysing written content requirements and documenting appropriate writing style for the audience
, researching, creating, editing, curating/adapting written content (including questions, feedback and assessments) employing written techniques such as analogies to explain complex information, and written in an engaging style suitable for online learning.

To include supporting material such as ‘How-to' guides, storyboards for video and audio;
, implementing elearning editorial strategies, standard operating procedures and content standards to ensure content complies with MOD and Defence Academy branding, values and ethos;
, liaising with stakeholders;
, sharing your knowledge with the team and wider Academy

Minimum Requirement:
, accurate written and verbal communication skills;
, experience of using adaptable writing skills in an educational capacity;
, ability to implement accessibility in writing.
, attention to detail - essential for proof-reading your own content and that produced by Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) or other members of the team;
, ability to conceive creative written ideas and work to a deadline;
, good team skills: you should be comfortable working within a small team of specialists, and liaising with staff from across the Academy.

You should also be prepared to share knowledge, support your eLT colleagues and wider Defence Academy staff when required.
, continuous self-improvement to maintain your technical expertise

, An understanding of:
o visual design including typography and formatting
o elearning development using MOODLE and H5P is advantageous
Successful candidates will also need:
, good IT skills as you will be working with a range of software and supporting a virtual learning environment;
, the ability to prioritise and work under pressure in order to meet deadlines.
Qualification: level 5 in a written communication qualification eg: journalism, script writing, technical authoring.

A level 7 qualification in a training-related subject is desirable, but not essential.
