Service Care Legal are currently recruiting on behalf of a local authority in the Oxfordshire region who are recruiting for a Head of Legal to join their legal department on a contract basis.

ROLE: Head of Legal & Deputy Monitoring Officer
LOCATION: Oxfordshire
RATE: £55.72 to £63.32 per hour, 37 hours per week
CONTRACT: 6 months ongoing

The Role

• A key senior management position within the council responsible for the daily running of the Legal department


• To provide strategic leadership support and capacity to the service, align council objectives and vision to deliver workable strategies for the service


• Handle a personal caseload of high-level legal work and to take the professional lead in highly complex or sensitive legal matters


• Be the deputy monitoring officer and ensure the lawful decision making powers of the Council are exercised properly

The Person

• A qualified Solicitor, Legal Executive or Barrister with at least 5 years' PQE


• Significant experience and knowledge of Council law and Governance services at County and District councils


• Understanding of Corporate Governance framework and lawful decision making of the Council


• Extensive experience of handling complex and contentious legal issues
