Housing Management Support Officer

A local authority based in Newbury are currently recruiting for a Housing Management Support Officer to provide and intensive support service to applicants who are at risk of homelessness, and supporting them in to temporary accommodation.



The Role
The focus of this Housing Management Support Officer is provide intensive support to applicants who are at risk of homelessness, to include attending possession hearings to provide support, signposting and referring to other agencies that can provide relevant support and assisting with general finance management.


You will also provide support as required to applicants residing in temporary accommodation provided by the Council, to include assistance with budgeting, getting into employment and seeking accommodation.


This will include the following tasks and responsibilities:



  • To support applicants in court during possession hearings and to liaise with the landlord both pre- and post-court to ensure a plan is in place to prevent the applicant's eviction.

  • To provide support to statutorily homeless households who are provided with temporary accommodation by the Council, supporting with budgeting, maximizing income, getting into employment and assisting with removing barriers such as the overall benefit cap.

  • To work with households who need to downsize their social tenancy property due to under-occupancy or who need to move to alternative social tenancies for safety or other reasons.

  • To ensure the timely assessment of Discretionary Housing Payment (DHP) applications in cases where possession is being sought due to rent arrears, and to liaise with the DHP/CTH Assessment Officer and the Housing Management Team to ensure prevention opportunities are maximised through DHP payments or other funding streams.




The Candidate
To be considered for this Housing Management Support Officer role you will require previous experience working with complex needs service users, have excellent experience of multi-agency working and strong knowledge of homelessness and the housing benefits, and rent payments.


Due to the nature of clients you will be supporting in this role, to apply you will require an enhanced DBS on the update service.

The Contract
This is a full time Housing Management Support Officer role, on an initial 12 week contract, with a chance of extension.

Working hours are 9-5 Monday to Friday.
