Port Health Team Leader

A local authority based in Dover are looking for a Port Health Team Leader to join their team.

This is on a permanent basis - salary is £46,339 - 52435 plus 14% shift allowance and also a £6,350 car allowance.

It's an exciting time to be joining Dover District Council as they expand the Dover Port Health Authority (DPHA) service now the UK has left the European Union.

The work of the DPHA is vital to the smooth running of the border at Dover, and to the protection of food safety and public and animal health in the UK.

We ensure the smooth flow of safe food through Europe's busiest ferry port - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - and onto the shelves of shops and supermarkets across the country.

Dover are looking for experienced Team Leaders who will manage and develop a team of multi-disciplinary Port Heath colleagues to deliver the control checks.

Reporting into the Port Health Manager and working alongside other team leaders, veterinarians and partner organisations you will be responsible for ensuring the service is effective and efficient.

Your key responsibilities will be to supervise and operationally manage the team including shift work allocation/prioritisation, ensuring operational performance meets or exceeds key performance indicators and that the service meets the organisational requirements for quality management, customer service, health and safety and legal/regulatory requirements.

In addition, you will oversee database and administrative checks including the operation of Information Management Systems (such as the use of PHILIS and IPAFFS), producing reports to guide the service provision.

Along with the usual people management skills required to manage a shift-based team, you will also be able to maintain and support established financial management systems so experience of this along with strong IT skills is essential.

They are looking for the candidates to start as soon as possible, but would be willing to wait for the right person.

Initially these roles will work 37 hours a week until the shift pattern and associated shift allowance commence prior to the BCP becoming operational, which is currently expected to be in July 2022.

There is scope for part-time candidates to be considered.

DPHA offer a great work-life balance shift pattern where you will be working 6 duties on (3 days and 3 nights) followed by 6 rest days on a rolling basis.
